Tiszadob – Child Protection Centre
2011-07-01 - 2011-07-12; number of volunteers: 12
Tiszadob is a small, isolated village in one of the poorest areas of Hungary. Currently there are around 90 youngsters living in the Child Protection Centre located in the village, mainly teenagers of gypsy origin. For more then a decade there is an SCI camp organized in the children's home every year, which is traditionally preceded by great enthusiasm and high expectations. For the inhabitants the camp is a unique opportunity to get in contact with people from abroad -since the volunteers will be spending the most of the time with these children, motivation and interest in working with disadvantaged youngsters is expected from them. The other important purpose of the camp is to show the youngsters an example of disciplined and labour-of-love inspired work.
Work: The physical part of the work will be gardening, together with the inhabitants. Apart from this there will be cultural evenings when the volunteers will present their countries/costums/dishes to the youngsters.
