Between the 21st and 30th September 2011 150 activists were gathering near Rosia Montana, Romania to express their solidarity with the local struggles against the Canadian Rosia Montana Gold Corporation. The fight has been going on for more than 10 years now. The company wants to establish the biggest gold mining project in Europe using the extremely dangerous cyanide technology.
The event was organized by the Reclaim the Fields movement (www.reclaimthefields.org) together with Alburnus Maior Association (www.rosiamontana.org), with strong support from the Romanian peasant association Eco Ruralis (www.ecoruralis.ro) and numerous organizations and individuals from the geographical Europe. The group has organised many actions in the village during the camp which were not represented in the local and national media.
On the 25th October (Tuesday) in the office of Útilapu Hálózat we are going the screen the movie called New Eldorado (directed by Tibor Kocsis). After the movie one of our activists is organising a discussion about her experiences of the Reclaim the Fields camp and Rosia Montana.
